Every organisation that moved its operations online inherited a perimeter it never had to think about before, and most did it faster than they built the team to protect it. Security is one of the few disciplines where the shortage is structural rather than cyclical: the surface to defend grows with every system added, while the expertise to cover it takes years to build.
Security is unusually gated: organisations hand people the keys to everything they own, so they check paperwork before they check anything else. A graduate credential is often what moves an application from the pile to the interview, not because of what it taught, but because of what it certifies.
Security is one of the few disciplines where working across borders is entirely normal: the systems being defended are not in a building either. A credential that is read the same way in every market matters more here than in almost any other field.
